Ko`olau Foundation is a cultural heritage preservation program. Our mission is to pursue and promote Hawaiian cultural and environmental practices, preservation and education.
Looking for community service hours? Enjoy physical workouts while making a difference? While being in the great outdoors, you'll also be educated on the historical past of Ha'iku Valley. We're welcoming any volunteers: students, families, & friends to come along!

Visit our new page to know about our Ha'iku Valley Clean-Up Service events scheduled on Sept. 29 & Oct. 27. There will be more of them underway so stay tuned!

On behalf of Waikalua Loko Fishpond Preservation Society (WLFPS), we welcome you and your ohana to join us on Saturday October 19, from 8-12pm, provided with a light lunch after. We'll have various projects going on such as mangrove and invasive limu removal, in addition to others, so please let us know if you have a preference. We will try our best to accommodate you, WE also appreciate your flexibility as well. If you're interested please pre-register with Sheila at scyboron@yahoo.com if you'd like to come and kokua. Please let her know if you're chain-saw certified, we're always looking for folks who can help us with this! If you can come earlier (730am) even better!!!
Bring:
• ‘Ohana, friends, school and community groups
• Wear clothing you don’t mind getting dirty
• Old athletic shoes or tabis
• Sunscreen
• Reuseable water bottle

Directions:
• Take Kaneohe Bay Drive to Castle High School
• At traffic light, turn right onto Pu‘ohala Road if you’re coming from Kailua or left if you’re coming from Honolulu
• Make your first right onto Kulauli Rd.
• Follow road past Puohala Elementary School until you reach the fork in the road -go left and follow dirt road to the end

    Instructor: Peleke Sacatropez
    COST: $60 Instruction, and access to tools, equipment, and first piece of bone
    **First 15 students to put down the money are in.
    You can either hook up with me, Kalawaia, or paypal it to peterm@hawaii.edu
    Students are encouraged to bring their own Dremels and attachments if they have them, some tools will be made available 
    Students will learn to carve bone starting with a basic Hawaiian fishhook design, progressing to pendant or figure pieces. Students will learn to safely use both hand and mechanical tools in their bone carving methods. More advanced students can use this class for individual studio use and access to tools for bone carving.

    Students are encouraged to bring their own tools if they have them, some tools will be made available 
    Students will learn to carve wood starting with a basic projects using chip cutting, whittling, and/or progressing to relief, figure, and other projects of student interest. Students will learn to safely use both hand and mechanical tools in their woodcarving. More advanced students can use this class for individual studio use and access to tools for wood carving.
